We make the macaroni salad in house. The recipe is an old family recipe and we don't give it out. If there are allergy concerns please let us know any allergies you have and we can answer if that particular ingredient is in the recipe. Thanks
Yes call them also they will smoke your own ham or turkey very good
Really good food served by friendly people.
San Diego classic. Love their beef plate and slaw
Been going to this place for years. It's old school style decor, simple menu that hasn't changed for years, and just good food is what makes it a San Diego landmark. Nothing fancy, just good food.
Best local BBQ and I chose it over Phil’s. The ham and beef are my favorite. Also my favorite barbecue sauce. Great sides too
It just eating at home, feel good food and friendly service. PS They have mac and cheese on the weekend.
Excellent place! Excellent food! Been going there since I was knee high to a grasshopper!
I grew up with eating at The BBQ Pit and it's still one of my favorites! Their sauce is crack, fries perfect and ham so delicious! I don't live in the area anymore but it's always a very tasty treat!
Wow!! What a great place, this family has been cooking up BBQ in San Diego for over 70 years. Stopped in for some food and purchased the #6. Taste great, atmosphere is awesome, I am surprised there are not more of these around still. Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Honestly this is the best bbq in San Diego County. We've had parties catered by The Barbecue Pit multiple times its always a hit! Just had a ham sandwich and macaroni salad for lunch..... I ate every bite and was considering putting their bbq on all the food i eat lol. I'd give them ten stars as five just isnt enough!
Some of the food didn't deserve a 1 but it wasn't very good and the service and decor were so bad it ruined everything. I understand nostalgia but this is not that.... it is cheap ownership that refuses to invest in their business.
The pulled pork is great but love the Navy bean soup. Split pea too.
Pork ribs to die for. I've been going here since a kid and it's just great quality bbq. Also they have recently begun adding a dry rub to their ribs and I love it. Please go here because I fee like if the community doesn't one day it will no longer be there.
This place has been here at least for as long as I have been in San Diego. 30 plus years.Same feel, same good old simple menu. Like an old friend, get together and remember good times and good food!
I love bringing my family here to eat Beef Sandwiches, Ribs, chopped meat sandwiches or the beef plate with the delicious B.B.Q. Sauce . Usually with a side of Baked beans, French Fries and a drink. My son loves the French Fries and sits quietly while I eat. Staff is super friendly, and makes Delicious food.
2nd time here and consistently amazing food. Deliciously flavorful and extremely friendly staff.
Is and has been a neighborhood number 1 barbeque eatery. Best for years, a reputation for great food.
Altho the have good barbecue and friendly staff, they stopped selling beef ribs.
Big disappointing beef so dryConsidering prices jacked up due to 🍖 neat shortages !!TOO many good barbecue places
In error I ordered the beef ribs. Imagine my surprise when my husband said “those are the best beef ribs I’ve ever had”. We’ll be back for the pork ribs soon
Best hometown BBQ...awesome sauce and love the macaroni salad!
Been coming here for a while now. They give you a lot of meat in the sandwiches. Fries is always super fresh.
Has always been great and great prices.family owned and run!
As always our dinner from the The Barbecue Pit was excellant. We had the ham plates. Ham was tender, beans were perfect. And the slaw was good. I love this place!
I tried this place for the fist time and it was really good , so good I went back the very next day for lunch.
Really amazing food with a friendly and knowledgable staff. You gotta try the new pulled pork fries.
If you like consistency: The menu never changes and rhe prices are fair.
Is this the same place that use to smoke the meat about 20+ years ago tried this place today did not taste the same big disappointment to me other than that no issues just a little pricy and was this place called the wood pit
Great food. Family owned. Friendly staff
Delish! Great homestyle bbq
Never been disappointed here. Great portions, wonderful flavor. Gotta try the baked beans, they're my favorite. Staff is always friendly.
Super Fast food. Always fresh.
Good BBQ. They don't have sit down service.
The food was excellent the macaroni and cheese is one of the best I ever had the navy bean soup oh my God it was like my mother used to make it everything was so good real good portions of everything thank you
Great family bbq
Good food. In a weird way, you walk in and know exactly the kind of food you're going to get. Cheapish, cafeteria style. Recommend checking it out.Unrelated, my girlfriend is reading over my shoulder and is upset I didn't give it 5 stars (from the original 4)... Take that into consideration, i guess. :P*Update* We're engaged now.
I'm not a barbecue expert and I usually don't care for barbecue sauce as it too sweet. So I got a beef sandwich to eat without any sauce. Unfortunately the meat was flavorless: no seasoning, no salt, no smoked taste. I was surprised since they have such a good reputation. In my limited barbecue experience I would judge a good barbecue place by how the meat tastes before you add any sauce. I doused it in Louisiana sauce but got tired of eating and didn't finish the sandwich. The coleslaw was excellent, crisp and flavorful. My husband loved his pulled pork sandwich, and my dad enjoyed his ham sandwich and pea soup.
Delicious! Huge portion size! Meat was tender, sides were great, especially the baked beans. The service was very friendly! One recommendation would be to offer original (plain) bbq sauce, as the clove sauce was a little too unique.
A very tasti pork ribs.. Reasonable price for a full baby back ribs. Enough for 4 people with 2 large side dishes..
Old fashioned BBQ joint. I'm from La Mesa and have been here many times over the years. The BBQ is very tasty and the service is good.
Good food! Navy bean soup is excellent.
Liked it very much. I hadn't been there in a long time but the food was still great.
Great tasty food.
Fantastic family-owned BBQ, with a long history in San Diego. The food is consistently great! They use the old family recipes.
This restaurant is my favorite restaurant. Of all restaurants I know I love it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to this restaurant. when I want to go to a good meal, this place comes straight to my mind. fresh and all sorts of food and a rich cuisine.courteous staff, and nice ambience. In addition to that, the cost is good. I sent my friends to this place with pleasure.
I strolled up in this place, stating that I never had barbecue. Boy was I pleased and surprised. Ordered a full rack of pork ribs, that's where I messed up. Should of ordered three. Because I found myself trying to save a little for the next day .. that did not work well.. another tip those beans you got to get them.. I definitely will be returning to this family location.
Great tasting food with a great coustomer service
For me, the sauce is the best! The baked beans are the real deal homemade. And the split pea soup is like I remember my Mom making. The meats, eh to me. We tried beef, ham, and pulled pork.
Wow! What a disappointment! The bbq sauce is way too sweet. The pulled pork wasn't that good. What a dive! I was fooled by the reviews.
Delicious! Pork, Beef and Ham.
A bit on the pricey side and the quality was just okay. I try new bbq spots every month, so this really was disappointing as I had high hopes.
